The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Wishlist
Theories are great! They get the creative juices flowing and are always a great conversation topic when you are with fellow fans or just browsing the comment section of your favorite internet site. However, with theories comes a sense of expectation and when our expectations aren’t met we tend to deem a movie or show subpar to its “potential.” it is impossible to make everyone happy and we often put an unfair pressure on the writers and directors bringing these stories to life. Although there are forms of fair expectations being as though they are for the most part just adapting these stories to a new medium, in any case there is no harm in wishful thinking. These are a few things that would be greatly welcomed by Marvel fans but diehard and casual alike. And on a scale from 1–10 (1 being the least likely and 10 being the most) we will rate each wish listed.
- More Red Wing!
Since the introduction of Falcon in the MCU we have only seen Red Wing in action twice in Captain America: Civil War! Which is crazy considering how often he is used in the Comics. Albeit in the comics Red Wing is an Actual Falcon with a psychic link to Sam and in the MCU they Stripped Sam of that ability and instead went with a more technological approach and made Red Wing a drone of sorts. It is still a shame we have only had brief glimpses of the tricks and maneuvers Sam and Red Wing are capable of. This ranks as a 10 on the likelihood scale.
2. Mutant reference
“ Everyone has a gimmick now!” Okay this one will be on the wish list for everything Marvel puts out until it actually happens! To many fans WandaVision was the seemingly perfect time to name drop the next step in human evolution, mutants .We were all disappointed, however maybe there was no name drop due to the fact that chronologically in the MCU, we have already gotten it. Hear me out, it was announced that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was originally set to debut as Disney+ flagship Marvel series and that WandaVision was intended to be its successor, but due to real world events plans were changed and the latter was released first. Now the question becomes, “Why would a show about Sam and Bucky introduce the idea of Mutants?” well there might be a better answer to that question than you may think and that brings us to our next item on the wish list. Sadly, due to the season only consisting of 6 episodes with a lot of plot lines already confirmed, a Mutant reference ranks as a 4 on the likelihood scale.
3. Omega Red
Little is known about the past of Arkady Gregorivich Rossovich except that he was born a mutant in Soviet Russia, with a grab bag of powers, mainly the ability to secrete toxic pheromones that torture his victims through sickness ending in death, exploring these abilities as a child he naturally became a serial killer. He was captured by the Interpol agent Sean Cassidy and turned over to the KGB, which wanted to experiment and attempt to create a Super Soldier similar to Captain America. Omega Red is the end result. Due to a healing factor similar to that of the Wolverine, he survived the procedures to implant a retractable carbonadium tentacle within each of Omega Red’s arms. Being a Mutant he is very much involved with the X-Men and is in fact one of their most formidable villains but also being from Russia he is very heavily associated with the Red Room, where Natasha became the Black Widow and the Winter Soldier program, both of which were also attempts by the Soviet nation to recreate the success seen with Steve Rodgers. The trail of breadcrumbs is easy to follow leading to the appearance of Omega Red, with the presence of the Red Guardian in the Black Widow movie who was also an attempt to recreate the super soldier serum and the inevitable past of James Buchannan Barnes coming back to haunt him as it often does. Keven Feige has also stated that not only does the Russian themed Black Widow movie tie directly into the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier but it will also be the stepping stone for many future Marvel projects and storylines to come. Omega Red showing up ranks as a likelihood of 6 out of 10, due to his involvement with the Black Widow and the Winter Soldier, both of which are at the forefront of Marvels next two big releases and the fact that Marvel can introduce the character without him being a mutant if they really wanted to continue to disappoint their fans. His powers can be explained through experimental science as a whole, although that would be far less interesting.
4. No Steve Funeral
This is more of a wish for something NOT to happen! It cannot be stressed enough how much I DO NOT want them to kill off Steve Rodgers this soon. We just lost Natasha and had a Funeral for Tony Stark. It would be soul crushing for fans to have to witness the funeral of another beloved founding Avenger. He is definitely very old and will naturally take that next step in the circle of life but now is not the time for more grief in the MCU. From a narrative standpoint it would be great fuel for the fire of Sam and Bucky to carry on the legacy and it should be reconciled in a great story arc for Season 2. Season 1 however should stick to the action packed, humorous, thrill ride that the trailers have presented to fans. Hopefully, with a 6 episode season there won’t be much time or need to give us a Captain America Funeral, then again they could very well start the whole series with it. The likelihood of us being spared from this grief is a 7 on the scale.
One could go one and on about the things they wish would happen in these upcoming titles and more wish lists will definitely surface as time passes, but for now these things would be great additions to our next adventure and at the same time would not make or break the series if not introduced or explored. It will be very interesting to learn what other fans wish for the series in the weeks to come as we embark on the mission alongside Sam and Bucky.
